Getting Your Confidence Back Quickly When Life Happens

6/28/2017

Comments

So you had one of those moments recently where life happened....the guy (or girl) rejected you, your colleagues overlooked you, 6000 people in your vicinity are suddenly also doing what you do, your soul purpose SUDDENLY isn't going how it was MEANT to....and then maybe a kind family member jumps on the bandwagon to judge, sorry encourage you....NOW what do you do, to recover your sense of self and confidence in how awesome you are too?

The Self-Recovery Technique: Clear what's NOT you, reconnect with the REAL you

Whenever our focus shoots outside of ourself and we find ourselves suddenly making our sense of self worth dependent on someone else's actions or behaviour in the world, rather than drowning in sea of sorrow and being sorry for all one hasn't done or been able to be, it helps to a) lovingly acknowledge what has happened and give oneself a moment to nurture oneself in that, but then to also try to refocus to b) taking stock of what you DO want and what your true purpose is now and c) what you still have and ARE that you can give thanks for.

For me, this is when i turn my daily self attunement practice into my 7 step self-recovery practice. I reconnect (with the earth, my soul, my higher guidance), I release what's not me in all this, I realign with me and my purpose, I re-affirm what i'm grateful for and recommit to self love/self respect, i request any additional insights i need and then i resume daily action, in line with both my soul purpose and creating a better outcome next time.  Those 7 steps in this short process have become my fastest way to re-centre into my sense of self and get my confidence and clarity back in a hurry.

Here's another insight i wanted to let you in on too, if you're not already aware, as to why we can get so rolled in the metaphorical whitewash by this kind of external changes and outcomes.

Enmeshment V's Conscious Connection in our relating...and how that impacts our confidence and sense of self

Enmeshment is a description of a form of relationship between two or more people in which personal boundaries are highly permeable, undefined and therefore unclear. This happens on energetic and emotional levels in which the people are highly in sync with each other and are impacted by the sensation of the other's emotions. It involves a high level of awareness of the other to the point where it is difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins, or who's tastes, values, preferences, thoughts, feelings, experiences are who's. This pattern has it's origins in our childhood and how we were raised and has been show to develop when.
  • some form of traumatic life event leads to one or both parents becoming highly concerned for and or protective of the child or children's wellbeing and the intensity of this protectiveness and concerns continues ongoingly after the original event

OR if there is a family history in parenting style of
  • One or both parents desire to constantly know everything about what their children are doing or thinking an/or direct it becomes highly intrusive upon and controlling of the child/children's independent behaviour and identity.
  • Parents use their children’s good or difficult behaviour, successes or failures,  to define and dictate their self worth.
  • The parents regard the child or children as the center and sole purpose of their life with little interest taken in maintaining connection to other passions, interests and or purpose/s
  • Parents sole focus is on taking care of their children, with little to no regard for their own needs and self care.
  • One or both parents emotional state is made completely dependent upon their child or children.

Enmeshment between a parent and child will often result in over involvement in each other’s lives so that it makes it hard for the child to become independent and aware of one's own identity, plus be responsible for oneself and one's choices. Plus the child becomes dependent upon the external world and those in it for direction as to how to behave or feel and or validation of their choices and self worth. Either the adult then lives out their parents life path, as their own, and or may have difficulty making choices, identifying their feelings and taking responsibility for themselves in adulthood. With this patterning as one's foundation, this child as an adult creates relationships in which they feel responsible for the other and therefore to blame if things don't go to plan, plus left feeling empty and in self doubt if acknowledgement and approval is not provided by the people around them they care about the most.

As an adult child of an enmeshed parent, it is then up to us to take back the power to define our own value and worth, not to mention hand back responsibility to the people around us not reflecting back to us our true worth and how we want to be loved for their possibly shitty behaviour.

How can one then strengthen one's sense of self and confidence in one's own feelings, intuitions, choices  and actions over the longer term?

  • Complete an energetic/shamanic rite of passage ritual in which a formal energetic separation and transition into adulthood is completed
  • Then thereafter cultivating a daily energetic clearing and alignment practice that allows one to clearly establish and ground their sense of self, passion, purpose, the connections with others one desires to how one desires to outwardly express oneself in the world each day.
  • In all social situations, be aware that there is literally a literal energetic "overlap" between oneself and others and then, from this place, practice being present to what one is experiencing in oneself,  and asking if this is me or them. Then practicing tuning into the "Frequency" of each of you involved, until you can start to more clearly identity what's you and what's them. Especially with people close to you, who you trust to be honest with you, you can ask them for feedback on what they're experiencing verses what you're picking up on too, to help you build your confidence in what is you and what is them. With the proper use of intention and awareness, one can then choose to turn down the sensory awareness of other people's "radio channel" of experience at will and turn up the volume on their own, or vice versa, as may be the case in any situation, work or personal, where one wants to be highly present to and aware of what is going on with the other.

This is where i found both my Coaching training and my Tantra and relationship training brilliant for helping me practice with others the ability to intend to become completely present and attuned to another in pair work and practice lovingly disconnecting as well, and hence navigating the experience of merging with another and bringing ones energy and awareness back to one's clearly contained sense of self. The more competent one becomes in navigating between the two states, the more confident you become in operating in both states, while maintaining a clear sense of who one is and what one needs and desires to experience and the more confidently you can hold your boundaries.

Strengthen your own centre...literally and figuratively

Speaking of holding your boundaries, there is one powerful physical practice one can do that also helps not only build a strong container for one's self to reside in, but also recall all of ones energy and identity (ego and soul) to reside within and that's any physical practice like pilates, yoga, Qi Gong or Tai Chi for example, done with the intention of literally strengthening ones core and psychologically, emotionally and spirituality restoring and grounding ones core sense of self.

Here's a good example of one of my favourite quick yoga workouts for restoring my core sense of self when life has knocked it about a bit....

CONNECT WITH ME

Then rinse and repeat and rinse and repeat, at least twice a day.

While it's absolutely beautiful to hear from the world and the people we care about what makes us special and unique and what they love about us, particularly if you grew up with enmeshed parents who bestowed your wins with approval but may have neglected to ask you to self appraise your value and what makes you unique, it's twice as confidence building to create and dictate your own awareness of your value. Are you making time to list daily of what is awesome about you and what awesome things you did? And when you do, are you making time to not only tell yourself that, but allow yourself to really feel and receive your own love and validation, until you truly accept it as your truth? For those people who had absent parents as a child, this practice I've noticed clients react to, at first, a bit like one is getting short changed of the love and validation they desired that they may not have received by doing "this self love thing". Yet its a core life skill for the child (later inner child) to learn that they can't actually HAVE their parents attention 24/7, that sometimes in life they will need to occupy themselves, to self-manage their own wellbeing and self-appraise their own performance and worth, plus set the standard for how they want to be honoured and treated. In which case, this activity can be reframed as something to aspire to and look forward to, that's going to bring one far better experience of life. And as one activity that will help make us more magnetic to everything and everyone in our lives we desire to connect with going forward. A woman (or man) who values his or herself highly and is clear in the sense of who they are , what they love, what they want and what they will and wont stand for is sexy as hell, wouldn't you agree?

SO there you have it for today, 3 ways that you can quickly build your confidence back up when things don't quite go according to plan, so that one can create and experience more of the life we love in future, not to mention, have more to give to the world and touch more people's lives positively, operating from a place of deep self love and, well love in general.

Got questions? Like to know more? Like some support in this area?

How to 10X your Manifestation Magic (especially for your speaking and facilitation)

6/13/2017

Comments

Hey there. Did you have a great long weekend? I had a truly awesome one, which is precisely what got me thinking about manifesting things we love. For years now, people have been commenting, giggling, cursing the efficiency with which i've so often created and attracted exactly what i needed in the moments where i needed it in such little time...but what is it that i do differently that sees it happen with such seemingly little effort? (Though I can tell you not really, even if it looks that way.) Well today i thought i'd reverse engineer for you one of my secrets of how and when exactly I first worked out how to really make this work in my favour (particularly when it comes to my speaker self),  secret i stumbled upon entirely by accident, as a bi-product of something else i loved doing, that i later realised gave me an advantage others hadn't had. That thing would be my performing arts background, specifically my acting, musical theatre background and long history of spontaneous freestyle dance moments.

Here's why. The skills required to be a great actor and a great manifester actually overlap. For much of my childhood and teenage years, i loved performing arts and was never short of a lead role in high school when i wanted one.  Like many schools, when it came to drama class, I got busy learning everything i could about Stanislavski and his system, which is essentially the art of not just directing someones voice and movement, but completely, wholeheartedly immersing oneself in the reality of the character one is to bring to life and improvising ones way in the moment through the experience of each moment of being that character.

As someone who was very empathic and empathetic, it wasn't much of a stretch to me start imagining from the inside what it might be like to be each character i brought to life during that time and with practice. I was good at asking lots of curious questions about every aspect of what it would be like to be that person, from how they react to a doorbell, to how the fidget when sitting on the couch, to what happens in their stomach when they hear their partner come home from work and shut them out for the 10 000th time. I was really good at putting myself in their shoes. But, over time, I also got better and better at letting my imagination, my creative flow, the energy, the life force and emotion of that being flow as my own. Improvisation is total surrender to pure creativity in the moment. Like a child does so well when they play, but we forget when life happens and we grow up. Acting was a way of bringing that ability back, in a focused fashion, with an intention. Just like the process of manifestation. I've long since intended to let that part of me go that tries to play other people's characters, in favour of bring forward more of my own. BUT what remains is the creative flow of visualisation, of improvisation, through dance and the creative flow of my voice, wether i sing it out loud, or let it flow on a video or on a stage. The allowing of my feminine creative flow in motion.

If you remember for a second what is required under the law of attraction to manifest something, it is to be able to picture and put yourself in the picture of exactly what you want to create and experience, as though it's happening right here, right now, and connecting with the emotion of what that would feel like to be living that. Sometimes it helps to remember past experiences to help inspire your creativity in the present moment, it gives you an emotional canvas on which to imagine the happy reality of the future. It is the emotion of it, plus your clear declaration of a HELL YES to that experience that puts the energy in motion and through it you align with and bring into your reality THAT desired reality.

So are you getting it? The skills one has to master of imagination, surrendering to the pure live creative flow and emotional expression that are required to be a kick ass performance artist, are inadvertently some of the same ones required (plus aligning with one's truest self, soul purpose and who we're here to co-create that with) are what are required to become a Masterful Manifestor. I don't have anything anyone else any doesn't, it's just that i was more recently familiar with going all in with that creative process and that expressive embodiment process. Anyone else can re-cultivate this capacity too, with a little practice. BUT we have to get over our stuff and self judgements about HOW we look being in that process, wether privately, alone in our house or LIVE in front of others, or on a Facebook live and be willing to stay IN the process, even maybe while looking a little silly, for the gifts that come on the other side of practice. Yes, we might screw it up a little, and look around and go, "OH MY GOD, DID ANYONE JUST SEE ME DO THAT?" And probably they did. BUT they also see it and LOVE it when we STAY in and grow through them.

So how do i specifically do it now?

If it's just me, I'll sit and meditate for a start, to align and with a specific intention in mind, as to what i intend to bring through and create.

Envisioning It

In this, lets take a Women's Leadership talk i'm envisioning doing to a large audience at some point in the not too distant future. I've been wanting to do one for a while, but wasn't entirely sure what it would be on. Yesterday morning, very early, I was standing in my bedroom. And after meditating on it, I started feeling into the flow of it. Then I start picturing standing there as thought i'm doing it live. At first, in my head, I was standing in a huge theatre, the kind you see in TED talks and i was on the stage. I could see the stage lights, i could see the audience down below, I could feel the tremendous amount of groundedness and presence and light with which i was standing on that stage and I was feeling the audience. They felt good, they felt warm and receptive and I was in ownership of that space on that stage, just like i'd been hundreds of times, on stage, earlier in life, knowing, trusting in my ability to utilise their full attention, to be present in a pause, before i delivered lines and a lived a character. Same feeling, only this time, i feel COMPLETELY content and IN myself as me, knowing, trusting in the pause, feeling this audience lean and listen in as i step out there and go forward to greet and meet them, with this message they need.

Get up and Rehearse it

And now, in the real world bedroom space i'm in, I literally stand up and I'm standing there and I just start talking...and at least 3 epic concepts and messages that i know backwards because they're my life's learning, just start pouring out of me...at the same time i'm projecting/feeling my imaginary audience and how they are with this...now is the time when this message is needed for these people, in that room, and for thousands who will watch this later, they're receiving and connecting with "hell yes' " with this wisdom, they too are super grateful to be there. I continue to feel the how they feel and how i feel.

Own it

And then, having connected with that, I reflect and think about it for a second, and wether I want that, and i say hell yes. I created it (i saw it) i felt it, I stood there like i was doing it even and I claimed,

Let go and let it come to you
But then i completely let go of it and gave it life to do with it what it will and then got on with getting ready for the day and my first meeting today.

Act upon it
As i continue to tune in each work day that comes in future, if there's something i have to do to help make it happen, i will then act upon that. And if i hear i have to sit and wait for it to arrive, then i'll do that.
Picture

Every other talk or video or info evening i've done this for, in some form in the months or a year later, those networking evenings, those webinars on business content, those talks and workshops on womens wellbeing and sexual health all came into being in one form or another. And they all started with me imagining them and living them out in my lounge room, bedroom, the healing space, the office.
So that's it, that's my secret shared for the day. How does this compare with your manifestation practice? Is it similar? Did i just give you something you can incorporate into your practice, to fire up its manifestation mojo a little bit more? Love to hear your thoughts. Particularly with the public speaking/video/live event parts, not only is there magic in preparing, BUT you're also adding time and energy to the very manifestation of it as well, by living into how it looks like when it happens, closing the gap between the dream and the lived reality in the process. It's a big part of how i started winning at this game, and if you're not already rocking it, could well be a part of you winning at it too.

Until next time, have fun, take care.

Nat xoxo

How to keep our inspiration at a high over the winter months

6/5/2017

Comments

Happy Monday to you! Well it's getting to that winter time in the Southern Hemisphere where it all starts to get pretty INTERNAL and we can take example from all of you our Northern Hemisphere friends on how to stay inspired and active over our cooler months. So inspired by the recent drop in temperature and the desire to help keep my and your motivation at a high this winter, here's a few reminders of things we can do to improve our mood and maintain our motivation over the winter months and beyond, plus a few thoughts on why they're effective. Which might you incorporate to help with your motivational mojo this week and beyond???
Picture
1. Rise with the light

Sleep with the curtains or blinds in such a way that the natural light comes in in the morning and you, in your natural circadian rhythmic fashion, will wake with it. When you do, rather than leaping out of bed, why not take a moment to take stock of the insights you've awoken with and how they relate to the day to come? Then leap out of bed. Particularly in winter, though it's important to add some movement to get you warm and your metabolism ON for the day and maybe pre-warm your space if you can before you fully emerge from the covers. Whatever it takes to entice you out of the sleepy cocoon of the night and early morning that was and into your soulful service to the world and your passion.

2. Rehydration- keep drinking plenty of pure filtered water

Sometimes we need a little reminder, ok it's getting cold now, but you still need lots of water, to help your body cleanse and run at it's best and stay out of stress. Especially when you're inside with the heater drying out the air all day long. Every time you breathe out, you're breathing out your body's water content in tiny drops, which the heater is artificially drying out of the air. Remember, you've got to put it back in. In winter, especially at the start of the day, instead of substituting water for tea, keep having your water with a little freshly squeezed lemon in it, just add some hot water so that the first thing you take in is warm water and it kickstarts your digestion, wether before or after your morning meditation. Because the brain in over 85% water, it's also shown to help improve our mood. And if you talk to any of my friends who are into Zazen or Kangen water, they'll tell you hundreds of benefits of alkaline, pure water.

3.Align, Meditate, Appreciate

Starting the day on the right foot. Despite all the hardcore get up at 5am if you're a REAL entrepreneur (or perhaps to avoid the army of little people for just an extra hour or 2 actually, if you're a parent) talk, we all know how cozy it is spending just a little extra time in the warm cocoon of comfort on a South East Australian morning at the risk of then having to fly out of bed in a mad rush, already feeling behind the 8 ball. Now more than ever though, with the extra time indoors, its even more important though to make time for a morning meditation practice to cleanse, ground and align your energy for the day, start the day on the right foot by taking stock of all one has to be grateful for and to ask for any insights relative to how one can best lovingly and abundantly be of service that day, plus get any other insights relevant to that day. There's a great version of this that we do in my 30 Days to a Life I Love Program (next upcoming on the 10th July) that is just perfect for this and will be perfect for over the winter months too, to help us maintain our inspiration and love of life well above the seasonal status quo.

4. Do exercise you love

It's easy to drop this one when it starts to get cold....because its' cold and you don't want to be outdoorsy. But don't. Take over the gym, or a local yoga class, or your lounge room with impromptu streamed yoga classes from Gaia, double your resolve to go to that evening or weekend dance class, or do what i do and dance up the lounge room. Or embrace the cold, rug up and run, or ski, snowboard, toboggan your way through the snow season. Dare I say it, if you can, make some extra time to create and enjoy and intimate life! Whatever floats your boat, just make sure you keep your body moving, and those happy neurotransmitters pumping, as the temperature drops. As someone who's recovered from depression, I tells you, this surrendering to the SAD's business is a CHOICE, not an inevitability, and exercise is one of our greatest allies in aligning our bodies for a happy, inspired winter and a flowy, productive work day.

5. Choose Music You Love

What can you add to your playlist which will help you elevate your mood over the winter months? There is a definite correlation between what we choose to listen to over winter and experiencing the winter SAD's.  Basically it works like this, the song lyrics we repeatedly listen to can influence our brains in a similar fashion to the chains of thoughts we choose to tell ourselves. So it's worth giving some thought to how we want to use language to influence and motivate us? What lyrics will support you to be more of what you want to be and feel more of how you want to feel over winter?  More than that, certain musical combinations of tones e.g. melodies or harmonies moving in a descending direction induce sadness, whereas ones moving in an ascending direction open our hearts and lift our mood. Certain frequencies of sound too harmonise too our energy, whereas others disrupt it. With that in mind, are their any changes you can make to what you're listening to throughout the day? What music and what lyrics will inspire, motivate and uplift your morning moods right now?

6. Inspired Service

Continuing to do any combination of the before mentioned in your morning makes the move into work for the day over winter easy, because you're already aligned with what you're here to do that day and feeling inspired to move, or rather flow, straight into your way of being of service to the world. There's certainty and clarity around it. Now you just need to get in contact with the world and do your best to get it done. And take stock of the little progressions, as well as big goals your ticking on the way.

7. Human Connection

We know it, but hundred of studies also back it up, while it's tempting to stay in and become more internal over the winter months, regularly connecting with people we care about, wether friends, family, partners, our like-minded tribe of work or social peers we know helps our happiness levels and combat depression, as well as aid our fulfilment and success in our work. So make sure you keep making time in your busy routine to get out there and be social over the winter months, and  schedule in more  skypes and facetimes and phone calls with the people who love and bring out the best in you and vice versa. Not to mention some time for some (oxytocin inducing) heart hugs, with whoever, amongst the peoples and the creatures of this beautiful planet makes your heart sing ;-)

8. Omega 3

Research has shown us that Omega 3 is highly effective in the alleviation of symptoms of depression and anxiety. Depressed, anxious brains are inflamed brains. And Omega 3 has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect on brain tissue and therefore has been show to be highly effective in the alleviation of symptoms of depression and anxiety sufferers. Thus it makes sense that, if a combination of changing lifestyle factors leads to seasonal depression over winter, then it makes sense to up our Omega 3 intake over winter to help you with the happies.

9. Vitamin C

In addition to its well known other health benefits, vitamin C also has a role to play in reducing our stress and anxiety. Research on people suffering depression and anxiety has shown us too that one of the things they often have in common is a below average vitamin C intake. Vitamin has now been shown to be an important factor in the management of stress and its eventual progression into depression. Here's how. Where someone has a high concentration of vitamin C in their system, they have been shown to cope better with stress by way of vitamin C lowering the cortisol induced fight flight reaction. Among other effects, frequent exposure to high levels of stress hormones like cortisol exhausts the bodies physical resources, impairs learning and memory, and makes people susceptible to depression. In studies in which participants were asked to undertake stressful tasks, like public speaking, the participants given 1000mg Vitamin C all reported coping better and more than that, those who didn't get the vitamin C all had elevated levels of the cortisol in their blood and higher blood pressure than those who got the vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C is also a co-factor in the production of the happiness-inducing neurotransmitter, serotonin, along with the amino acid tryptophan. So if you haven't already, it could be worth checking in with your naturopath or nutritionist about what you can safely add into your diet to get more of both.

10. Soak up the winter sunshine.

Yes i know it's cold now. But we still need nature, bright light and fresh air and what vitamin D you can synthesise from the sunshine that remains. So make sure you rug up and get out there and do it anyway...embrace the invigoration. Go enjoy it tiger. It reminds us that we're ALIVE!

11. Laughs & Fun

Don't let the winter blues win, or the quality of whatever you're watching this winter dictate your mood and add to the SAD's. Where can you squeeze some extra laughs and fun into your every day routine AND the weekends?

12. Eat Healthy & Be Sugar Free

While winter food is wonderful, in reality we cook a lot of it to within an inch and beyond of it's goodness and as we wake up more to our own energetic nature, eating the traditional hearty stodge alone somehow just doesn't cut it when it comes to maintaining your optimal energy over winter. We need the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals of raw foods, but we need the higher vibration of it too. How can you prepare veggies, herbs and fruit in such a way that they STILL contain antioxidants, vitamins and minerals? How can you maintain some raw and realness in your winter diet? There's a good question for your friendly neighbourhood naturopath or nutritionist.

More than that, remember to watch your sugar intake. It's so easy in winter to compensate for the lack of external activity and the decline of sunshine with added eating sugar eating or alcohol consuming (still sugar) activity, it's trading one source of neurotransmitters and endorphins for one with a much worse come-down. Everybody loves a good hot winter dessert every now and then, just make sure it doesn't become a lasting habit of compensating for the SAD's and a deficiency of serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin and endorphins, with a short-lived sugar high. How can you keep your life full of other forms of stimulation, like the ones above, at this time of year?

13. Rest properly

It's soooo easy in the nice warm lounge, with a cold bedroom and bed on ones mind to fall asleep in front of the tv,  on the couch, with the lights on. Or even in bed with the the tv, laptop, phone all around and maybe the lights on. You know though, studies have shown that the body gets thrown out of its natural circadian rhythms and you throw off your sleep cycles if you sleep with the lights on. Likewise, if there's noise from tv and devices all around, you don't fully switch off, because part of our primitive survival brain is wired to listen for danger, which the screaming in that tv show at 1am, 3.5 hours after game of thrones, or whatever, just might seem to be. Not to mention, you're still taking ALL of it into your subconscious, whatever was getting broadcast at you through those and other devices over the night while your brain was in highly susceptible brainwave patterns during your sleep.  It's all influencing how you'll wake up the next morning and in what mood.  Too many electromagnetic fields and signals, wether from your phone, a wifi router, laptop etc around you during your sleep also doesn't help you rest, it's all yet another EMF disrupting your own energetic rhythm and the quality of restoration and repair your body could otherwise be achieving while you sleep. So lights and devices off or out of the room peeps. Plus make some end of day time to meditate and set up for the next day and you'll wake feeling far more refreshed over the winter months,

So there you have it. Thirteen ways to maintain your inspiration over the winter months. How did you go with all that? Did you learn anything new? Or get a handy reminder or two? There's some more research below on all of these, or feel free to ask my own internal wikipedia style database of knowledge, if it might help you in changing up your winter routine.

Until next time, have fun, take care.

Nat xoxo
